Good afternoon parents,

It is with great pleasure and excitement to introduce myself as the new Principal at Dan Peterson School. My name is Ryan Hemming. It is an honor to step in and attempt to fill the shoes of Kim Wong. It is a very humbling task. Kim Wong was my friend and mentor. She will be greatly missed by the staff, parents, students, and community. Her legacy will live on for a long time. I hope to live up to the culture that she has created at Dan Peterson. I would like to tell you a little bit about myself. I am an occupational therapist by profession. I have worked for Alpine School District for ~17 years. I worked the majority of my time as an OT on the west side of the district. I spent the last 7 years working in the Special Education office as the Special Services Coordinator and most recently as the Secondary Director of Special Education. I have worked at Dan Peterson previously as an intern and also worked 4 years at Horizon School. I live in Saratoga Springs with my wife and 4 children. I was born and raised in Utah and spent the majority of my time in Highland Utah. I went to American Fork High school and Lone Peak High school. I also attended UVU, University of Utah, and Grand Canyon University. My hobbies include fishing, golf, and Utah sports. I want you all to know that working in Special Education is my passion. I have an extensive background working with students of all ages and a wide range of disabilities. I have a strong belief in collaboration and teamwork. I share in Alpine School District’s vision for learning for all students. I am excited to share my thoughts and vision with you all as we work together as teams. Along with the teachers and staff, I will continue the legacy of success that has already been established at Dan Peterson. I look forward to building relationships with parents, students and community partners. We will continue to focus on the 6 C’s, essential elements, and developing the life skills needed for all students. My official start date is February 1, 2021. I will be in and out of the building for the next couple of weeks as well. Effective communication between the school and families will be a priority.
